From rags ...to riches.
Taking its name from an old Cuban cigar brand, La Riqueza literally means “wealth” in Spanish, and it’s one darn good rope. Rich in flavor and character, this is nothing less than we’ve come to expect from the dynamic duo of Pete Johnson and Don “Pepin” Garcia. Each carefully chosen leaf was selected by the masters at the Oliva Tobacco Company, the same individuals who are responsible for supplying tobacco to countless top-notch manufacturers. It’s no wonder this blend is extraordinary.
For the wrapper of La Riqueza, they chose a Connecticut Broadleaf, and this selection is intriguing to say the least. More commonly used as a binder due to its rugged appearance, what this leaf lacks in aesthetics it more than makes up for in flavor. Natural sweetness mixed with subtle hints of pepper and cocoa are apparent from the initial light. With a medium body accompanied by thick, billowing clouds, this is a tremendous experience that echoes of those classic Cubans.
La Riqueza received a well-deserved 91-rating noting: "A dark, pressed cigar with a toothy wrapper, fine cap and perfect burn. The draw is a bit firm but imparts spicy cocoa intonations underscored by hickory notes."
