Gurkha Vintage Shaggy Gran Torpedo

If you were guessing the Gurkha Shaggy got its name from its shaggy foot, then you are spot on. If you were thinking about Scooby-Doo....we might have a problem. The Gurkha Shaggy is a very distinctive cigar from the creative mind of K. Hansotia. Besides the noticeably exposed foot, the Shaggy utilizes a balanced recipe of vintage tobaccos.

Bursting from within awaits 5-year old Dominican long-fillers and binder. Resting atop this aged core is an enticing chocolaty-brown 8-year old Dominican wrapper. Upon toasting the rugged foot, the binder and filler provide an insightful experience as to the taste of a cigar sans its wrapper. (Truly very unique if you have yet to experience it.) As the burn reaches the wrapper, warm smoke swarms the palate engulfing the senses as smooth notes of tobacco, oak, spice, and a hint of vanilla round out this medium-bodied treat. Not your normal Gurkha, heck – not your normal cigar, the Shaggy is a must try.

Unique. Not your average taste.
Got these as a freebie. Definitely a better quality cigar but the taste is unique and not your typical smoke.

My favorite Gurkha
My favorite Gurkha! A great smoke. I recommend for all Gurkha lovers!

good smoke
good mellow smoke. I enjoyed one around the campfire. I will buy again.

Tons of thick smoke. Mild spicy taste. Unlike other reviews mine burned very even. Good construction. I seasoned several months in my humidor. One dimensional, but I found it a very enjoyable, and tasty smoke. I wouldn't buy an entire box, but happy with the few I did get. I am a newbie. Been smoking cigars only a year.

All over the place...
I think inconsistent is the best description. I gave one of these to my son-in-law, he thought it was really great. But then I had one that was really disappointing, with some construction problems.

No more Gurkhas
Agree with earlier reviewers, uneven burn, more uneven burn, at least one plug in each. This reinforced my decision to never buy any Gurkhas (I don't know why I slipped up this time). There's too many other cigar manufacturers that have good/great cigars across their entire product line at Gurkha MSRPs.

Not my favorite
Not a fan to harsh for me but not to bad.

I'm nervous for the second
At the beginning there was something off, but the draw was smooth and the fill was flavorful. It was the wrap, a bitter taste on the wrap.

Wonderfully Smooth
Wonderful mild to medium smoke. Woodsy flavor with sweet accents. I found it to burn even and smooth once you took care by pre-lighting before your first draw.

Awesome smokey cigar!
Great cigar, wonderful taste, smooth and mild, quick burn, but even and tasty. Overall, great smoke, I enjoyed them very much.

My least favorite Gurkha
Found them to be very inconsistent. Range from too spicy, to too bland. Just not what I expected compared to the other Gurkha's. Must be why they are always on sale. Only reason they got 2 stars is because the are well constructed.

Wrapper burns slower than filler.
I'm not sure if it's because of the oily wrapper, but I've had several Shaggy's, and I would estimate that 50% of the time I get a very uneven burn. I'm talking about 1/2 of the cigar still left on the wrapper, while the burn is inside of the ring! And I kept this last batch in my humidor for 3 weeks before trying one, and same result.

A great smoke in the Gurkha tradition. Nice burn, good ash, Gurkha flavor.

Loving Gurkas!!!
Excellent stick, my favorite Gurka thus far. Slow burn, nice finish.

OK, but not up to standard
As someone who enjoys most Gurkha cigars, I have to agree with the others. This is not one of the best. Frankly, it's not even one of the better. I also had some issues with how it burned, and the flavor was just OK. Glad it came as a freebie.

Terrible cigar
Probably the worst cigar I ever smoked ,didn't even smell like a cigar and burned terribly

Coulda been a Contender
First let me state that this is a very good cigar flavor wise. Sadly it suffers from shoddy construction. The time it took to create the gimmicky shaggy foot would have been better spent on the service end that unravels even at the shallowest of cuts. The burn was uneven requiring multiple corrections. I received these free with a CAO sampler purchase so though I have not lost anything and being a fan of a few Gurkha blends I would never purchase these on my own. There are better Gurkhas out there.
