Torano continues to impress me, and here’s yet another reason. Quick story, then I’ll jump right into the inevitably juicy, highly-discounted price.
Torano makes great cigars, that’s I fact you and I both know very well. They always have. But there was a time back in their younger years when their marketing and packaging just didn’t grab enough people, or the right people. So good cigars, really good blends, we’re missed and forgotten. It’s a sad story, but one that’s played out in this industry hundreds of times before. Fortunately, this one has a happy ending. Charlie Torano recently dusted off the family ‘bible of blends’ and uncovered a deep list of top-notch recipes. Timeless blends, all but forgotten, Charlie had an idea….and the Circa Series was born.
The first installment in the Circa Series, Dominican Selection, was a brand that hit the market in 1995 at the tail of the cigar boom in an ridiculously crowded market of sub-par handmades. It just never stood out and the brand’s life was cut prematurely short. But the blend was delicious….still is….and now it’s back for a curtain call. Carefully crafted under the watchful eye of Charlie Torano, Dominican Selection employs a silky, dark brown Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper leaf overtop a rich blend of aged Dominican long-fillers. Mild to medium in bodied, but layered with rich, complex nuances, each well-constructed handmade delivers a balanced array of cream, coffee, nuts, and black pepper. Add in a perfectly executed face lift and a massively discounted CI price and you’ve got a winner on all levels. It’s good, damn good, and it’s just the beginning.
