Fonseca CXX Anniversary

Another fantastic Fonseca.

Fonseca is one of the few timeless brands that seem to have been around forever - a name that has echoed through the hallowed halls of the cigar industry for generations. The story began just over 120 years ago when a Cuban by the name of Don Fonseca began crafting cigars under his own last name. The rest as they say is history, as the company has continually produced some of the world’s finest cigars spanning 3 centuries (19th, 20th, 21st), establishing itself as a household name. In honor of the company’s 120 years of heralded success, Manuel Quesada created the Fonseca CXX Anni.

Manuel Quesada of Fonseca cigars is no doubt a blending mastermind. Recently, his portfolio has been downright impressive, including the likes of the 90-rated Quesado Tributo and 93-Casa Maga, which earned the illustrious Top Cigar of the Year award in 2008 from Cigar Aficionado. Bringing his talents to fruition once again is the 90-rated Fonseca CXX. This rustic looking cigar, complete with pigtail cap is cloaked in an oily Cuban-seed Habano Vuelta Arriba sun-grown wrapper hailing from a micro-farm in the Navarrete region of the Dominican. This exquisite leaf hugs an all Cuban-seed medley of Dominican and Nicaraguan long-fillers creating a medium-bodied experience delivering gobs of flavor throughout a slow burn. Billows of smoke coat the palate as oh-so-smooth yet rich notes of oak, coffee, nuts and natural sweetness enter the fray. In accordance with the company’s 120 year span, only 120,000 of these limited time cigars are being manufactured. As one of the guys in the office so eloquently stated, “This cigar rocks”. Yes it does.

Great news! The Fonseca CXX earned a well-deserved 90-point rating noting: ‘A notably sweet, woody smoke balanced by dried fruit notes, a dusting of salt flavor, and some coffee bean intonations’.

Customer Reviews of “Fonseca CXX Anniversary”
First impression: the CXX is medium-bodied cigar in the same vein as the Quesada Tributo and the Fonseca Cubana Limitada, though perhaps a tad more refined. Really nothing not to like. Looking forward to trying the robusto next. I can see myself smoking quite a few of these.

FLAVOR,FLAVOR,FLAVOR!Long burn time, excellent aroma, perfect draw, just a beautiful cigar.Picked up a five pack of the robustos and tried one after only two days in my 300 count el diablo humi, it performed wonderfully!I hope to pick up a box or two before this limited production runs out.Well done Sr Quesada, thanks CI!

Another stick that came in a flight sampler five buck upgrade, when I purchased Fonseca Arana, was a CXX Anniversary robusto. Considering the cost, which I calculated at well under $2, this is a nice smoke. Medium bodied, long burning, but a bit harsh & overly peppery, for my taste. Paying full price would not be a consideration for me on this blend. The Arana & the delicious Cubano Limitado are better tasting Fonseca offerings, IMHO. I will say it sports one of the coolest looking bands I have seen recently & will come in handy when I make my next cigar band display.
Another testimonial for allowing a cigar to rest before passing judgement. I fired up a CXX Anniversary Robusto that had been tucked away for about 6 months. The flavors had bloomed since I 1st tried one, soon after receiving it last Spring. Truly one of Fonseca's tastiest offerings, this medium bodied delight emits clouds of creamy white smoke, from beginning to end. Loaded with flavors like cedar & citrus, it is a delightfully refreshing hour long experience. It's 5.7" X 52 frame is more Toro-like than Robusto, but you won't mind the extra 10 minutes, with CXX. Decidedly different than any other Fonseca blend, CXX Anniversary is a special occasion type vitola, due mostly to it's cost. If you can afford it, go for it. It is delicious!
I recieved a pair of these sticks in my anthology sampler, i want to say its the 5.75 by a 42 gauge i believe or 6. Well needless to say i have already smoked both sticks and couldn't be happier with the performance or these sticks nice burn good construction of the wrapper and produceses nice clouds of smoke accompanied by a great aroma. Smooth taste mild flavor does not leave a harsh taste on ur pallet.......good 40 minute smoke. I look forward to purchasing more from by buddys at CI....THNX always my fellow aficionados. "Keep a happy face and smoke with pride"
