Another fantastic Fonseca.
Fonseca is one of the few timeless brands that seem to have been around forever - a name that has echoed through the hallowed halls of the cigar industry for generations. The story began just over 120 years ago when a Cuban by the name of Don Fonseca began crafting cigars under his own last name. The rest as they say is history, as the company has continually produced some of the world’s finest cigars spanning 3 centuries (19th, 20th, 21st), establishing itself as a household name. In honor of the company’s 120 years of heralded success, Manuel Quesada created the Fonseca CXX Anni.
Manuel Quesada of Fonseca cigars is no doubt a blending mastermind. Recently, his portfolio has been downright impressive, including the likes of the 90-rated Quesado Tributo and 93-Casa Maga, which earned the illustrious Top Cigar of the Year award in 2008 from Cigar Aficionado. Bringing his talents to fruition once again is the 90-rated Fonseca CXX. This rustic looking cigar, complete with pigtail cap is cloaked in an oily Cuban-seed Habano Vuelta Arriba sun-grown wrapper hailing from a micro-farm in the Navarrete region of the Dominican. This exquisite leaf hugs an all Cuban-seed medley of Dominican and Nicaraguan long-fillers creating a medium-bodied experience delivering gobs of flavor throughout a slow burn. Billows of smoke coat the palate as oh-so-smooth yet rich notes of oak, coffee, nuts and natural sweetness enter the fray. In accordance with the company’s 120 year span, only 120,000 of these limited time cigars are being manufactured. As one of the guys in the office so eloquently stated, “This cigar rocks”. Yes it does.
Great news! The Fonseca CXX earned a well-deserved 90-point rating noting: ‘A notably sweet, woody smoke balanced by dried fruit notes, a dusting of salt flavor, and some coffee bean intonations’.
