Customer Reviews of “Isla del Sol by Drew Estate”
I chose the Isla Del Sol as my intro into the world of cigars based on all of the glowing reviews across the web. At 29 now, I have smoked only about 3 cigars in my life, the last one before this undoubtedly having been a Macanudo, because that's what my dad smokes. I personally do not like whichever kind of Macanudo he prefers, I found it too strong and bitter. I actually went out and searched for 'sweet cigars' and after some research, the consensus was that I should try this cigar. I like it. A lot. My mom enjoys the aroma also. I love walking into the room and it smells of this cigar. I got my 5 pack 10 days ago and have smoked about half per day, having just started on my last one. I decided to stick with Drew Estate's infused cigars, and just ordered a tin of 10 Tabak Especials for my next couple of weeks of smoking. Until the tin gets here, I think I'll go to the cigar shop and try a 5 Vegas Gold if they have one.

Excellent cigar ! This is a personal favorite, good draw, good construction ,fabulous taste. What I turn to when I want to kick back and enjoy a pleasant hour. Amazing value in an outstanding product. Just super in every aspect !

FANTASTIC!
CH of Milford, MA
Gotta say I've never been a fan of flavored cigars.....until I Smoked one of these bad boys and DAMN was it good:) Went to CI to check the price and was floored at what they are giving them away for. So I bought me a box of church hills. This is easily the best deal I've come across for these.
Br of ian YoungOkeechobee, FL
Isla del Sol has all of the flavor of my sweet cup of coffee premixed with the natural sweetness of the tobacco (just a little milder than my pipe tobacco), and it is convenient...no packing a pipe or brewing coffee...it's all right there. So for a person like me, a cigar like this (and at this price) is a great find.
HS of Lenoir, NC
OH MY GOODNESS!!!!! This is a good cigar but just too sweet. I began enjoying it more at the halfway point when the sweetness died out. I don't think I'd buy a box but I would probably pick up a 5 pack.
CC of Petersburg, VA
Wow! What a smoke! This is my new favorite. I cant believe the price on these beauties--are you kidding me? If you like a flavored cigar, don't let this one pass by without trying.
RA of Macon, GA
I Love this Cigar(Isla del Sol by Drew Estate)! Coffee (like chocolate) has a natural compliment to cigars so why not blend these flavors? Well this cigar works very well with this balance of the mild-medium tobaccos and it's sweet tip, and flavors mixing well together. And just because it's inexpensive does not mean that Drew Estate cheaps out with loose crappy construction. You get fully packed well constructed cigars that is a pleasure to smoke like a cigar should be.
RB of Auburn, NY
I have always been a fan of Drew Estate products.Isla del Sol by Drew Estate These cigars are awesome in flavor. Definetly a cheaper alternative to the Java. I have smoke several now, and the flavor is consistent, but a couple burned a little un even. All in all though for the price they are a great cigar!
KS of NORCO, CA
I "bought" the advertising and bought a box of Isla del Sol. Horrible. Should be sold in Walgreens and CVS next to Swisher Sweets. How can this be called a cigar? (He said in a fit of humility.)
Dr of . E.Brentwood, TN
Those 3 dollar a gallon gas prices got you down? Relax with an Isla del Sol. An economical alternative to the Java. Another winner from Drew Estate - the undisputed king of flavored cigars!
JM of Cumbola, PA
I am not a flavored smoke person, but bought these as part of a CI one day deal. (Isla del Sol) They were great and for the price you can't beat it. It burned even and cool. It was well constructed and good Drew Estate Alternative to the JAVA. The Java is more natural tasting and the Isla is a lot sweeter, but still a winner. I smoke them with Coffee that has coffee flavored rum, yummy. They are worth a try.
PG of Mt. Ephraim, NJ
I was gifted this cigar by a friend in the business and fell in love with them. With Java cigars hard to find even from CI occasionally, the Isla del Sol is like a Java very lite, or even a Java Latte lite. Very nice for an after dinner smoke, and even better with a cup of coffee.
MC of Bolingbrook, IL
The perfect dessert (Isla del Sol by Drew Estate)!!! A perfect summer night includes a steak dinner with a good beer, followed up by an Isla Del Sol cigar.
LR of Louisville, KY
I absolutely love the JAVA and thought this may be comparable. Isla del Sol by Drew Estate is a much more sweet smoke. still good but does not hold a candle to the Java, I guess I just like a little more Tobacco flavor to my cigars
BB of Rockland, ME
I am the "Queen" of flavored cigars. I highly recommend this gem (Isla del Sol by Drew Estate). Very tasty, even burn, and awesome on the draw; not to mention, a reasonable price. I was very impressed!
AP of Matawan, NJ
I was a big fan/smoker of the "Kahlua" cigars. But, when they were discontinued, I had to find a replacement. Thanks to Drew Estate's "Isla Del Sol" I have found it. A great smooth taste with a sweet coffee flavor. Nothing as good as the "Kahlua", but pretty damn close. I highly recommend, if you enjoy flavored cigars. Once again, Drew Estate has come through. Thanks!
RM of Heartland, TX
Drew Estate stick are too damn expensive, but oh man this one is perfect pricing for an exceptionally tasty cigar. The scent is a mix between pool hall and caffee shop hauts of my youth. Daddy likes!
JH of Port Orchard, WA
While my last fan mail on this made me seem like an illiterate I will throw another bone about this stick, it gets a million times better with age in a well seasoned humi.
JH of Port Orchard, WA
Was offered this as a knockoff to the Drew Estate Java. It is a very nice smoke. Burns even, good draw and great sweet taste all the way to the end. I was stuck on the Natural Clean Robustos by Drew Estate, but I am thinking with the lower price of these I will be sticking with a Isla Del Sol's instead. Try one, very very good choice...
TF of Newport News, VA
i have to admit , ive snuck a cap lick every now and then, this is probably the best deal at ci,(Isla Del Sol) this cigar actually could take the place of that after dinner desert.no mystery here ,its a mocha choco whipped cream delight. double sugar dipped cap,but as gonzo says ,after the cap wheres off, a true tobacco taste shines through.i love to start the day with this , a little black coffee, a piece of choclate cream pie. and isla del sol.
JS of hamilton, OH
Holy c , was I surprised when I lit this cigar (Isla del Sol by Drew Estate) . After the snip and upon tasting the cigar even before lighting, I knew I was in for a treat. The sugary tip, thought sweet at first, mellows out quite well and adds just a hint of sweetness to this already flavorful cigar. Upon lighting the ciagr, it doesn't give off the normal pre-light smell that most cigars have (even the flavored ones) and tasted almost like I was smoking a good mocha chocolate latte. Stayed smooth all the way down, never becoming bitter or losing its taste. Definitely a recommend here if you want something not only out of the ordinary, but smooth as well.
TW of APO, AE
When I saw the low price on this one (Isla del Sol by Drew Estate) I was very skeptical but I bought this cigar simply trusting the Drew Estate name. They have yet to let me down and this cigar is no exception. Once I lit it up I was surprised by the delicious light mocha flavor, the even draw and the consistent burn. I ran right out and bought several more. If you are like me and enjoy the taste of mocha in a mild cigar then this one is for you.
MG of Pomona, NY
A friend of mine suggested the (Isla Del Sol) to me and I love them. In fact, I am about to order my 3rd box and I dont usually by boxes. This stick is smooth from start to finish, tastes great and smells so sweet that non-smokers seldom complain about it. For the money, there is no better cigar I have ever had to include the Java.
Ar of my HTAl Kut, Iraq, AE
Any cigar that can get my wife to light up with me is alright in my book. These are her favorite cigars. Truth be told, I like the Isla del Sol too.
SR of Lancaster, PA
I have enjoyed every Drew Estate cigar I have tried. From the Acid line, Nasty is my favorite. To the Natural line, Clean Robusto is it. I enjoy the Kahlua and the Java. But when I tried the Isla del Sol I found my every day, chain smoke cigar. Well made, consistent and excellent power packed flavor! You can smoke 10 a day and still have money in your pocket! Thanks Drew Estate and thank you CI !
K of PColorado Springs, CO
These cigars are great (Isla del Sol by Drew Estate)! I first got some in a shop in South Carolina and I fell in love. I have smoked cigars much more expensive then these, but I will always enjoy these cigars more. Sweet and mellow with a little hint of mocha, very easy and almost addicting smoke!
NB of Poulney, VT
This is the first time I ever tried a flavored cigar. Truth be told, the tip is sickeningly sweet (I drink a lot of espresso), but about after the first inch of the cigar, and the sweetness wears away, I'm hooked. Its damn near addicting treat.
TG of Silver Spring, MD
Simply the best flavored cigar out there. I've tried alot of flavored cigars and I would take this over all the rest including the entire acid line. Perfect construction, draw, and even burn in every one. The incredible price seals the deal. Give it a try, you won't regret it.
DR of Hampton, VA
I got my case of these yesterday morning and after opening the box the smell of coffee made me think of my little coffee shop. I had these sitting in my humi for a few hours and had to have one. Granted it was below O but it was worth it. The sweet cap combined with the coffee and coco flavors make this cigar tasteful but not to the point where it loses the feeling of a good cigar. Very well done.
TK of Fairbanks, AK
Well im fairly new to the cigar scene but i must say i really enjoy the Isla del Sol by Drew Estate. i would love to get a few suggestions from other people on what else is really good. all information would be greatly appreciated.
TG of okeechobee, FL
These are my favoite smokes. Half the price of the "Over rated " Java and just as good. If you like a mild Cigar with hints of Coffee give it a try you will be suprised at how good they are. A traditional Cigar lover might not like them.I am a big fan of Dew Estate products.
WB of Billerica, MA
This is one of my favorite Cigars (Isla del Sol by Drew Estate).Great taste, smooth burn.Very good smoke!
BB of Billerica, MA
This cigar is a fantastic smoke as you wait for that thick burger to grill while sitting on your deck with your favorite cold tasty beverage.
KL of North Canton, OH
Permanent spot in my humidors. I smoke cigars everywhere i go and many times people complain of the smell(no taste). These however attract a crowd everywhere. Especially the ladies. It has such a incredible taste and aroma. The slight bit of coffee hangs in the air and draws people in. The sweetened cap i could do without but its mild and goes away soon however for most people it will probibly be a bonus. In short a awesome cigar! Order this one. You wont be disappointed!
JS of Prior Lake, MN
Recently picked up two 5 packs, one each of IDS and a Java for comparison. Both were generally well constructed, though loose, but tasty. I let let sit in the humi for about 10 days before I couldnt take it anymore. I really wanted to like the Java more but cant say I was very impressed, especially with all the rave reviews it gets. I have not tried the Natural line yet but I can tell you that for the price you cannot go wrong with the IDS.
RL of Ridgecrest, CA
I want the address to Drew Estates so I can tell my lawyer. This was the most addictive smoke I have ever tried. (Exhibit 1) 4 box order. It is slightly sweet when you first try but as this stick burns it becomes more palatable. The smoke itself is addictive and fills the room. Drew Estates i will settle for a years supply. Great Job awesome Smoke.
JL of Keller, TX
Picked one of these up in the CI store last night based on reviews that I had read online. A lot of people had compared them to the Java, which is one of my favorites, so I thought this would be a sure thing, as Drew Estate rarely dissapoints. I have to say though, this really wasn't doing it for me. I expected some sweetness, but holy wow. It's like they dipped the end of this thing in in coffee syrup. Even though it does die down about a half inch into the cigar it just set me off to a bad start. I'll also note that the label at the end of the cigar was glued completely around and although I tried to be gentle with it, it just massacred the wrapper. I hate to feel like im bashing this cigar, I really wanted to like it. I loved the smell all throughout... but the taste just wasn't there, and I cant forgive the sub par construction/labeling. If they made an Isla del sol candle I'd buy it... but I don't think I'll be smoking another one any time soon.
BH of Lehighton, PA
First let me say this is a well constructed cigar. Very even burn, easy draw and strong ash. I expect nothing less from Drew Estate. Let me also say if you are a fan of strong, full bodied cigars this is probably not a cigar for you. This is a very mild tasting cigar as it really should be to allow the infused flavors to come through. On the first few draws this is a very sweet cigar (more so than a swisher sweet). This quickly fades and what follows is a coffee flavored mild taste that is really quite pleasant. This is a great after dinner smoke and would go great with a cup of coffee. Overall, I was impressed and would not hesitate to order more. I recommend it to fans of mild to medium bodied cigars.
SK of Woodhaven, MI
IDS is a great cigar they do burn a little uneven but I prefer them to Java
SW of Chino Hills, CA
A friend bought a box of these and gave me a few to try. I have smoked one and the others remain in my humidor as I have no intention of smoking another one. To each his own, but as for me this cigar is too sweet. If you like smoking sugar cane, then this cigar is for you. I didn't get the taste of coffee that was expected; maybe because there was too much sugar in it...
JA of Shoreacres, TX
Isla-Del-Sol The very smoothest smoke a cigar lover could ever want...
Ro of naldo PintoMonessen, PA
Wanting to expand my cigar experience, I broke down and purchased a flavor brand. The one I chose was the Isla del Sol, based upon all the good reviews. Having purchased a 5 pack, I allowed them rest a short while in my humidor. The cigars were as described...For those who enjoy this type of cigar (flavor), I can't see why you wouldn't like this one. There is one more brand I'm going to try called the Java, in the flavor category. Unless that one changes my mind, I will stick with the traditional non flavor cigars...
DM of Taylor, MI
Being a mild cigar smoker I often enjoy flavored or infused cigars as well. I have tried many(some good and some bad) and recently picked up one of these at a local shop. It was an awesome smoke. Now that I know how good they are(expected nothing less from Drew Estate) I can get some to keep on hand. From the prelight aroma to the sweetness on the lips and right down to the last draw they are a great cigar.
TO of Concord, NC
This is the best value stick I've ever come across if you enjoy mild/sweet sticks. Drew Estae has a winner here.
TS of Deer Park, NY
These are one of my Favorites. I always have them in my humidor. I don't always smoke them, but when I just want to sit out back by the firepit and enjoy a cigar and drink. This cigar is my choice. Just recieved my 3 boxes of them.
JM of Lakeland, FL
Love this stick. But i can understand how it wont be everyones cup of tea. I am a newbie to the cigar world and this was a great introduction for me, sweet with hints of coffee, just a great medium bodied smoke. So if your new just say what the heck and give them a try. They have a permanent residence in my humi.
RK of Las Vegas, NV
I'm still new to cigars and so far Drew Estates is my favourite brand. I love the acid line, the natural, and now Isla del Sol. This is a great cigar for the price. It's not as sweet as most claim the sweetened cap does not last long. This cigar transitions three times during the hour plus burn time. Your taste buds will never get bored. I will be buying more and this is a great cigar to relax with after a hard days work.
MB of Waggaman, LA
I think Gonz's staff review is pretty much on the money. A not-for-everyone sweetness while the stick leans more toward mild. A hint of coffee bean is present and works well on the palette, without being harsh...very enjoyable cigar and the price is right!
DG of Pearcy, AR
May I quote a Seinfeld episode "The BEST Jerry, the BEST." That is all you have to know....
RC of Hudson, FL
Ahhhh Drew Estate makes fine cigars in my opinion but Isla del Sol are among the top dogs cigar. Great taste all the way down.
MH of Cohutta, GA
stupendous, phenomenal, exquisite. What else can I say about this cigar!! I have been a cigar aficionado for over 30 years. I have smoked $1 cigars, and $400 cigars. For an infused cigar as an every day cigar, even better if you are a golfer; you will surely enjoy this cigar from start to finish. Burns very well, smooth draw, ash is nice shadow of gray & consistent. Enough said. Buy it, you will love it.
AH of BURLINGTON, MA
Love the Drew sticks - Kubas, Red Eyes, and now the Isla del Sol. To be more precise, I love the flavor and the aroma, but not the Swisher sweetness...
DA of WINTHROP, ME
....Usually I would put these babies in the humi for a week or so before firing one up, but with this stick, I could not help myself.... The only thing I can say about this stick is WOW!!! Nice and creamy, with a slight coffee flavor in the beginning, but the coffee flavor really comes out towards the end, and the sweet cap was nice, too. This cigar was everything I was hoping it would be and more and dare I say it.......this stick may be my cheap alternative to the Tabak Especial. I will be buying a box soon. Jump on this deal cause you can't beat this with a baseball bat....Thanks CI, yet another satisfied customer.
MS of Hollister, NC
I was given this cigar about two years ago on a fishing trip up north to try with a friend's dad and boy, did I enjoy it!! It has a sweet, but bold taste to it that keeps you wanting more and more.. I definitely recommend this to anyone just starting out smoking cigars...The ash keeps firm and you can smoke to almost 1 1/2 inches or so before you need to gently flick it off. All in all, a great smoke and one of few I keep in my small rotation as I'm the occasional cigar smoker, but only want to smoke the best, but won't blow my bank account..Great cigar!!!
CJ of Irving, TX
Smooth and mild. Very enjoyable cigar.
CC of Pottsville, PA
I've been smoking for less than a year, trying samplers and checking customer reviews. This smoke is by far the best I've had and all the reviews show it's on the top of every ones list. Thanks C.I.
EJ of Hackettstown, NJ
Too sweet for me.
LH of Longmont, CO
A nice smooth tasting cigar for half the price of a Java. Coffee taste is really nice.I was at a cookout and people who don't smoke were asking me "What is that your smoking ? It smells real good!"
WB of BILLERICA, MA
After reading all the reviews about this cigar I made my first venture into the Drew line of cigars. I have to say that this was enjoyable with a cup of coffee this morning. Yes the beginning is very sweet but half way through it stabilized and finished perfectly. I have purchased the box and if they all burn as perfect as this one I will not hesitate to purchase another. Later on today I will enter the world of another Drew product "copper label" looking forward to that one. I will be handing them out to all my friends.
PB of Springfield, MA
Damn good cigars for the price! Sweet, flavored & great price! Its a mild flavored cigar & almost as good as Drew's other Natural Dirt. Can't go wrong with Drew Estate!!!
RR of Laredo, TX
My absolute favorite daily cigar. If you are new to smoking cigars you must try these!
CF of Steeleville, IL
I never thought I'd be a flavored cigar guy, and after trying several, I was CONVINCED. In a weak moment, I tried one of these and I LOVE them! Mild to medium strength but tons of flavor. Great after dinner!
TM of Ellicott City, MD
Great cigar for mornings and gifts to friends. Not an everyday smoke if you're an everyday smoker.
TC of Indianapolis, IN
Nice and sweet on the palate. Smooth smoke and pleasant aroma.... Not bad for the price.
EW of Virginia Beach, VA
My favorite cigar. Great flavor, smooth and a great price!
WK of Edmond, OK
I have been waiting a long time to try some of these cigars. Waiting for a good price and a big enough personal inventory that this would be an occasional cigar and not a daily pick. Finally got a box on the twenty percent off sale, so I grabbed a box along with more boxes of my daily Victor Sinclair's and some really nice cigars from the Build you own sampler collection. I am a really big fan of Sumatran coffee, and I have to agree with the reviews about this being more of a loaded Starbuck's beverage. Very strong mocha flavor, which isn't a too bad of a thing, but to me it tends to cover over the tobacco flavors. Maybe they will settle down with more humidor time. If you are a fan of infused cigars, then this is a really good one. They burn well, easy draw with plenty of smoke, but for me I smoke them when I am enjoying some good dark roast coffee, unsweetened, as the two items compliment each other. Give one a try when you have a chance. It might be too sweet for you, but it's not a bad cigar, just different. Better yet if you can score some on a good CI bargain deal.
BW of COLLEGE STATION, TX
its a great cigar! Another great cigar from Drew Estate.
RA of Clovis, CA
Great cigars great value.
PJ of WEST CHESTER, PA
Wake up, pour a cup of coffee, and light this stick! Talk about a great way to start a morning. I've never really liked the flavor aspect of a cigar but man I can't get enough of this stick.
CH of SPOKANE, WA
By far my favorite cigar on the market. So smooth and smells amazing! Will be ordering a box before my 5 pack is gone.
NI of Elsie, MI
Was a nice cigar. Lots of smoke, characteristic of Drew Estate. Not one of their best but certainly an economical smoke. Wasn't packed too tight and I found drawing from the cigar rather tough. Maybe it was just me. Still a nice cigar nonetheless. Good flavors, as one would expect from D.E.
JB of Perryville, MD
Awesome. My favorite cigar.
JK of Novato, CA
I recently bought a 5 pack of the Isla Del Sol Corona to evaluate an infused flavor cigar. I am very pleased with this cigar. I enjoy the mellow, sweet taste of the cap and the easy draw and creamy volume of smoke. I like this cigar in the morning after breakfast. It is the perfect cigar to enjoy while walking my dog around town for 40 minutes or so. I will definitely buy more of these tasty treats.
DW of Tunkhannock, PA
I really really love Isla del Sol from DE. These are my favorite tasting cigars, but then all DE cigars are very very good. I can not say enough about these tasty beauties. You have to try one soon, CI has them at a great price.
RS of KEIZER, OR
I've never had a coffee infused cigar and bought a sampler of these. Completely blew me away so I ordered a box of the Gran Coronas. Love these. Definitely worth the money.
BH of MUSTANG, OK
A little sweet for my taste, but these are good from time to time just to change it up.
DB of Weatherford, TX
Great price and not to mention a delicious cigar. I prefer these as a breakfast or dessert smoke. This is a regular in my humidor. Come to think of it, I got a second humidor specifically for them ;)
SR of Dallas, GA
I have bought several boxes of the IDS by Drew Estates and I have to say that I enjoy this cigar a lot. I have had the other coffee infused cigars from Drew but his one really suits my tastes. The draw is always great and after you get past the sweetened cap, it is really good. I mean for the price, there is nothing out there with the taste and aroma that expells from this cigar. For me, this is a great cigar to smoke when around non smokers. They often ask `does it taste as good as it smells`?. (Like a cup of hot coffee mocha). I would suggest this to anyone that likes coffee infused. Smoke on my friends!
DS of RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA
Great smoke, nice coffee smell with mild coffee taste. Great to be on patio with nice sunrise, cup of coffee and an Isle del Sol!! Enjoy the day.
JB of LAS VEGAS, NV
Great after dinner smoke. Everyone thats tries one loves em.
PD of Williamstown, NJ
After only a few months of testing a plethora of cigars, I have found myself coming back to this ISLA DEL SOL. It has become my daily smoke, 3 to 4 a day... Great taste, my wife loves the aroma, big strong puffs of smoke, and SO AFFORDABLE!! Thanks CIGARS INTERNATIONAL!
DW of Andrews, TX
Great cigar for a change of pace. Nice coffee flavor and I like the sweetened tip except that it was almost too sweet until it wore off. Also has a great room note, almost reminded me of the smell of pipe tobacco. Great smoke for an occasional change from the norm. Will buy again.
DJ of Bowling Green, KY
And the winner is. Smooth and Delicious yes DELICIOUS
MG of Burbank, IL
On the plus side, I must say that you can smoke this one until your mustache catches fire and the flavor will not change. Unfortunately, it is the same flavor I got from the last inch of a CAO LX2 if I had smoked it while drinking Diet Pepsi. I really wanted to like this cigar. I love coffee and the thought of a coffee-infused cigar was irresistable. I tried a Java by Drew Estates. Both are spongy cigars--maybe that is why they smoke so hot. Both are coffee infused, which smells better than it smokes. Both are sweetened, but this one is overdone. I shudder to think of those Drew Estates cigars infused with potpourri! Again, on the plus side, I have purchased many cigars from CI, and their product descriptions are spot-on. So I can only deduce that it is my sense of taste that is to fault. So I will give Drew Estates one more chance--I want to try the Naturals.
GK of HAMILTON, TX
Loved it!
AG of MIAMI, FL
What a pleasant smoke!!! Really tasty and smooth 45 minute to One hour respite from reality!!!!!
JP of NEPTUNE, NJ
Sweet tip with an easy draw, a mild cigar, but full of flavor; great cigar to have over a cup of coffee in the morning.
TG of MUKWONAGO, WI
Another great smoke from Drew Estate
MH of El Paso, TX
Again Drew Estates has exceeded my expectations with the Isla Del Sol. This is a great everyday smoke. Medium to mild and with a little sweetness, this is a great buy and great smoke. Thank you, Drew Estate
BT of Federal Way, WA
Good smokes. Not to sweet on the infused side, and not to bland either. The perfect blend of creamy smoke with a mild sweet flavor when you lick your lips. This cigar is great when you want something between an Acid brand and a Cohiba. Very smooth and mellow smoke, with an easy draw, while still maintaining a full body of robust flavor, and hints of chocolatey nutty goodness. Isla Del Sols burn even and hold on to a long white ash. Perfect price for a tasty Smoke treat.
BT of Bozeman, MT
I cannot add anything positive that hasn't already been said, so I'll just say this is in the top two of my smoking rotation. The other is KUBA KUBA love em!!!!!!
JD of Detroit, MI
Drew Estate made yet another tasty treat. The flavor and smell are so good, they almost make you wanna eat it....but don't. They will leave you with burnt fingers trying to get as much as you can out of the little nub. The only problem I can see, is that I ordered the 5 pack first, just to give them a try. If these sound good to you at all, don't do what I did. Just grab a box. I promise you will see what I mean.
SM of Kokomo, IN
Man these are great. Sweet flavor throughout the whole smoke. Overall great casual stogie

Isla del Sol

Lately I've been humbled by some very kind words from my readers - wink wink - please keep them coming so I can continue to forward them directly to my boss with the hope that I'll get a little more cha-ching so I can buy me some bling-bling.  Let me share a couple with you before getting into my latest masterpiece of literary contribution:

MC of Sioux City, IA writes "Gonz, you call yourself a connoisseur, are you serious with these picks, your palate blows, I just wasted 5 minutes reading your reviews that I'll never get back." - wait, not that one.  How about this one:

AP of Anchorage, AK writes "Gonz, your reviews blow colder than the wind drafting across the Alaskan bay in January." - wait, I'm sure I have a good one in here somewhere.  OK, here it is:

IK of Jarrettsville, MD writes "I haven’t disliked a cigar that you have recommended and I hope you keep up the great reviews."  Ahh, thankfully there's a shill in every crowd.  Thank you Irvin, you made my day, my week, and my year.

Outside of the emails that continue to build my confidence that I'm indeed doing something worthwhile here, the rest of you guys are crazy, nutso, looney, headed for the room with wall-bumpers.  I've gotten some crazy suggestions in the past, but the most frequently suggested cigar of late is....and you're really not going to believe this....Isla del Sol.  Yes, no sh*t, yeah, you read that right.  Isla del Sol, Island of the Sun, more like Desert Frozen Over before Gonz, connoisseur extraordinaire, smoker with a moral obligation to the heritage of a traditional cigar, shall put forth a little hard-earned cha-ching for an imbued "mocha-infused" thinga-ma-bob that happens to look like a cigar.  That's right, I'm not a follower, I 'm a leader dammit, and I won't sacrifice my morals (or is it my ethics, or is it my....or never mind, you know what I mean).

Well....on Valentine's Day I got a little gift from the boss-man....a 5-pack of Isla del Sol with a love note attached "Gonz, review this cigar...NOW."  Yessir, whatever you say sir, you lead, I follow.  So much for my moral integrity.

Alrighty then, have I wasted enough space yet on this review.  Let's see, snip, draw (very easy and effortless by the way), torch...torch....torch....damn, I'm outta fuel, oh well, can't review it today.  Crap, boss-man gave me a case of butane in December, guess I can't use that excuse.  Alright, torch it up.

Calling this a sweet cap is probably the understatement of the year 'cause I gave up sweets for lent and I must now go to confession.  The first inch or so, a mouthful of coffee-flavored creamsicle is all that penetrates your tastebuds.  The next inch, hmm, now we're getting something a little interesting.  Have you ever had one of those mocha java capa-frappa-ccino-latte-with-extra-whip at your corner Starbucks (are they on every corner or what?), well, this is the cigar version of it.  Uh, huh, would I kid?  I'm not sure how the fellow lunatics at Drew Estate come up with this sh*t (damn, that's like the 4th time I've cursed in this review, like I said, off to confession) but this is a concoction that I never would've thought possible in a cigar.  What I want next is a fruity margarita cigar that plays Buffett's Margaritaville as you smoke it, topped with one of those umbrellas for good measure.  Mr. Jon Drew, I want royalties on that suggestion, you know it, it's a good one!

OK, enough of the joking for just a second.  I'm blown away by how much this cigar sells and I'm blown away by how much people love it.  I can't say it's completely my cup of coffee (get it?), but I have never had a request to review a cigar more than this one.  And while I've done a horrific job reviewing it, it's a very well-made handmade mixed-filler cigar with a delicious Sumatra wrapper (my favorite of course since it's the same wrapper that hugs my beloved 5 Vegas Classic) and an infused mocha flavor that is one of the most flavorful things I've ever smoked.  Better yet is that it's an easy draw and smokes even and flavorful from start to finish.  My favorite part starts about 2 inches in, the extreme sweetness of the cap is gone, and you get a richer tobacco flavor yet it's still masked by the coffee notes.  So, if you're looking for a traditional cigar, don't buy this.  But, if you're looking for something different, sweet, and inexpensive for those in-between times, go nuts.  You'll love it.

Light'em up,

- Gonz
